FAQ - 💬

❓ Should I be worried about phleboliths?

👉 Phleboliths are small, round lumps of calcium that form in a person's veins. They often show up as white spots on pelvic X-rays, and they can be mistaken for kidney stones. These calcifications are common, particularly in the pelvis. They are not usually a cause for concern and are rarely painful.

❓ What are symptoms of pelvic phleboliths?

👉 Varicose veins, which are enlarged veins overfilled with blood, can be a symptom of phleboliths. They're usually visible under the skin and have a red or bluish-purple color. Varicose veins are often painful. Another common symptom of phleboliths is ongoing constipation.

❓ What diseases cause phleboliths?

👉 Injury of any kind to the vein walls caused by vein pressure can lead to the development of phleboliths. Varicose veins: Considered a symptom of phleboliths, varicose veins may cause them as well. Varicose veins are overstressed, dilatated veins that can lead to blood vessel damage and phlebolith development.

❓ Are phleboliths the same as kidney stones?

👉 Phleboliths have radiolucent centers and are calcified around their periphery [4], while kidney stones tend to instead present more densely organized microstructures due to their microcrystalline nature [5,6,7].

❓ Can pelvic phleboliths be cancerous?

👉 In most cases, pelvic phleboliths are benign. They don't require any further treatment or evaluation. They are recognized as a normal part of aging. In rare cases, the presence of phleboliths in the pelvis can alert your doctor to the possibility of more serious conditions, such as venous malformations.

❓ What are the warning signs of phlebitis?

👉 Symptoms of phlebitis affect the arm or leg where the inflamed vein is located. They often include swelling and pain in the affected area....Symptoms of phlebitis

  • redness.
  • swelling.
  • warmth.
  • tenderness.
  • visible red “streaking“ on the skin along the vein.
  • a rope- or cord-like structure that you can feel through the skin.

❓ Can phlebitis go away on its own?

👉 The condition usually improves on its own. Your doctor might also recommend these treatments for both types of thrombophlebitis: Blood-thinning medications.

❓ How common are phleboliths?

👉 Prevalence of pelvic phleboliths in adults is reported to be 38.9%-48%. They are more common in adults aged over 40, and appear to equally affect both genders.

❓ What does it mean to have phleboliths?

👉 A phlebolith is a small local, usually rounded, calcification within a vein. These are very common in the veins of the lower part of the pelvis, and they are generally of no clinical importance. When located in the pelvis they are sometimes difficult to differentiate from kidney stones in the ureters on X-ray.

❓ Can phleboliths cause leg pain?

👉 The chief factors in the formation of phleboliths are therefore lack of muscular support to the veins, stasis, undernourishment and healing by calcification. can cause pain in the legs and testicles, they can also cause it in the pelvis and abdomen, as hasalready been proven by the gynecologist.

❓ What causes blood clots in pelvis?

👉 It is most commonly caused by compression of the iliac vein in the pelvis. The iliac vein is responsible for carrying the blood flow out of the leg and pelvis, so when it gets compressed, it leads to a buildup of blood in the area.
